Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav is scheduled to visit Muzaffarnagar on Sunday. Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi are expected to visit the area on Monday.

The district administration had so far not allowed any VVIP visits in the region. Union minister for civil aviation Ajit Singh and the leaders of different political parties, including BJP and Congress, had been turned away when they tried to visit the riot-affected area after the September 7 violence that claimed the lives of more than 37 people.

According to divisional commissioner Saharanpur division Bhuvnesh Kumar, besides visiting the troubled areas the CM is also expected to visit the relief camps, as well as the residence of the journalist who was killed in the September 7 rioting.

Singh has sanctioned Rs. 2 lakh each for the next of kin of those killed and Rs. 50,000 each for the seriously injured in the clashes from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund.
