Amid UP government's security concerns over Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's unannounced tours, a top government official in Lucknow on Friday blamed Special Protection Group for the "lapses" on their part in informing the State about the movement of its protectees.
"As per the clear directives of the union government with regard to the security of a SPG protectee, the state was not informed (about Rahul's visit) and 'this lapse' has been detected by the officials who have looked into the details of the visit," Home Secretary Anand Kumar told newspersons in Lucknow.
Kumar, However, asserted that the state police did their best in providing security cover to the Congress General Secretary who visited to some central districts in the state Thursday.
"The visit passed off peacefully and wherever possible we did whatever was expected of us," Kumar said.
The state police has given its report about the lapse on part of the SPG in not informing the state, as was required, and it was being studied by the government, Kumar said.
He, however, said that no report has so far been sent to the Centre in this regard.
