Durga Nagpal row

The Uttar Pradesh government on Wednesday directed the principal secretary (home), RM Srivastava, to probe into the “discrepancies” highlighted by Durga Nagpal's reply to the chargesheet in connection with the demolition of an under construction mosque wall in Gautam Buddha Nagar’s Kadalpur village on July 27.

Srivastava will probe into all the aspects of the case and submit his report to the government as an inquiry officer.

“I will visit the spot to ascertain the facts with regard to the whole incident,” said Srivastava on telephone.

“The state government is however yet to take a decision on revoking the suspension of Nagpal,” said the officer, adding, Nagpal’s reply was being examined and certain discrepancies have been found in her reply.

Sources said Nagpal may be let off with a warning once the state government was satisfied about points she had made in her reply.

The state government has also transferred the district magistrate Gautam Buddha Nagar Ravi Kant Singh. “District magistrate Ravi Kant Singh has been placed on the wait list to ensure that the inquiry is not influenced,” said a senior officer.

Nagpal had recently met senior officers of the state government and Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav to explain her point on the demolition of the wall of the religious places.

She was posted as sub-divisional magistrate Gautam Buddha Nagar and was attached to the board of revenue in Lucknow after the state government placed her under suspension.
