UP: GRP constable arrested for raping woman who took wrong train

A government railway police (GRP) constable was arrested for allegedly raping a woman belonging to minority community on board Lucknow-Chandigarh Express on Monday night.

The incident came to light when the train reached Bijnor railway station on Tuesday afternoon and the coach reserved for handicapped passengers was found locked.
Passengers claimed that Shukla was inside the coach with a woman and they forced him to open the compartment. When the passengers entered the coach, they found a woman lying on the floor unconscious. The constable tried to escape but was chased and beaten up by the people.
Bijnor district magistrate, Jagat Bihari, Bijnor SP, Atul Sharma and Superintendent of police (GRP), Moradabad region, KK Choudhary reached the station with a heavy force and assured the people that stern action would be taken against the accused.
The woman has been admitted to a district hospital and regained consciousness after six hours.
Choudhary suspended the constable after the woman lodged a complaint at GRP police station, Najibabad.
Sharma said investigation would be carried out on the basis of the woman’s medical examination report.
