A chief development officer's daughter Madhu Verma (18) committed suicide by shooting herself at her residence in Indira Nagar's Bhagwatipuram locality early morning on Wednesday. She shot herself with a licensed revolver of her father.

Indira Nagar police station in charge Taufiq Ahmad said the initial probe suggested that the girl took the grave step apparently under depression, however any confirm motive has yet not been ascertained.

He said no suicide note has been found.

The girl’s father Prabhu Nath Verma was posted as CDO in Kannauj and was recently transferred to Rama Bai Nagar (Kanpur Dehat) in the same capacity. The CDO has yet not joined his new posting and was at his house when the incident took place.

Ahmad said the girl shot on the left side of her chest after locking herself in a room at around 5 am. He said the family members broke into the room after listening the bullet sound and found her lying in a pool of blood. She was rushed to a near-by hospital where the doctors declared her dead on arrival, he added.

The in charge said the girl was Class 12 student and manages a jewellery showroom in a Gomti Nagar mall along with her mother and two brothers Mukesh (25) and Rakesh (21). She was third eldest among her four siblings including two elder brothers and a younger sister Urvashi (16). Cops have sent the body for post-mortem to further probe the case.
