An appointment department officer said Srinivasulu has been put on the wait list.

The state home and revenue departments hold daily media briefing to inform journalists about the number of people from UP missing and rescued in the hill state.

On Thursday Srinivasulu briefed media persons about the people rescued and flood condition in the districts on UP-Uttarakhand border.

When a reporter asked him about the number of the people from UP who died in Uttarakhand, Srinivasulu said, “We do not have the figure of those alive, what to say about the dead.” Taking serious note of Srinivasulu’s remark, the state government immediately shifted him.

This is not the first time that an officer has been shifted over insensitive remark. In May, home secretary RN Upadhyay was transferred when he made an insensitive “a-person-born-has-to-die” remark in reply to a media query on Sonbhadra mass suicide case. The reporter had asked about the reason of mass suicide. Quoting Gautam Buddha, Upadhyay had said: “Birth was the reason of death. If you are born then one day you have to die.”
