In a first, Captain Manoj Kumar Pandey UP Sainik School, Lucknow, has allowed enrolment of girls from the 2018-19 academic session.

The application forms can be filled online on the school website www.upsainikschool.org between September 25 and October 31, said principal Col Amit Chatterjee.

“If we really wish to eliminate the evils of gender bias, we need to take some tough decisions and allowing girls in CMKP UP Sainik School is one of them,” he said.

The school staff feel the move would usher in a new era in the history of the institution. It is the first Sainik School in India that was established in 1960 and has been nurturing young talent for 57 years.

The brainchild of former chief minister Dr Sampurnanand, the institution has made an immense contribution by producing young talents that have gone on to serve the country’s defence forces.
