UP: Security stepped up after tension in Newada village

Security was stepped up in Sultanpur on Monday, a day after tension gripped Newada village. An irate mob had organised a protest near Baldirai police station after rumours of cow slaughter spread in the area.

Security was stepped up in Sultanpur on Monday, a day after tension gripped Newada village. An irate mob had organised a protest near Baldirai police station after rumours of cow slaughter spread in the area.

SDM and Deputy SP were camping in the village. Extra police force was rushed to maintain law and order ahead of panchayat polls scheduled for Tuesday.

SP Sultanpur, Vinay Kumar Yadav said the villagers saw a cow lying on the road and a few people were standing nearby. When the villagers rushed towards them, the unidentified persons fled the spot.

Villagers informed the police about the incident. Later, district veterinary officer Dr Alok Srivastava referred the injured cow to the veterinary hospital at Acharya Narendra Dev Agriculture University.

SDM Sadar Ratibhan Verma has been directed to probe the incident and submit a report.
