The state government will soon set up two more Apna Bazar markets at Saifai, chief minister Akhilesh Yadav’s native village and Jhansi to enable farmers to directly sell their produce there.

Akhilesh gave necessary directives in this regard after approving the proposal here on Monday.

The chief minister was presiding over a meeting of board of directors of Uttar Pradesh Rajya Mandi Parishad here. He said the two new Apna Bazars should be set up on the pattern of the one already functioning in Lucknow. Akhilesh said more such bazars would be opened in other major towns of the state.

He said e-tendering would be introduced in the mandi parishad to carry out construction works of over Rs 10 crore. He said the mandi parishad would grant a scholarship of R6000 per month to the students pursuing research in the field of Agriculture.

Akhilesh asked the officers to make changes in the functioning of the mandi parishad in the interest of small, marginal and medium category farmers. He said the mandi parishad should develop its markets in such a manner that the farmers were able to sell their produce directly and the consumers were able to get the product at cheaper price.

On this occasion, an approval was also granted to the new rice policy. Under this policy, the mandi parishad proposes to keep export quality rice out of the purview of mandi tax. The chief minister also stated that a one time settlement scheme (OTS) had been approved for the jaggery units for a period from October 1, 2012 to September 30, 2013.
