Guman Singh, one of the three aggrieved class four employees, spoke to HT on Sunday and gave his version of how the Moradabad senior superintendent of police (SSP) lost his cool and assaulted them. HT reports.

The Uttar Pradesh government on Sunday suspended Moradabad senior superintendent of police (SSP) Modak Rajesh D Rao for allegedly beating three police class four employees posted at his residence.

How did the three earn the senior officer’s ire? So much so that he allegedly assaulted them with slippers, a broom and a stick.

The three apparently kept Samajwadi Party leader ST Hasan waiting at the SSP’s residence and did not inform their boss. One of the three aggrieved class four employees said the miscommunication was not their fault.

RM Srivastava, principal secretary (home), said the SSP was “suspended for misbehaving with his followers”.

In UP, orderlies attached to senior police officials are referred to as followers.

The state government has also ordered an inquiry into the alleged assault and asked Amrendra Kumar Sengar, deputy inspector general of police (Moradabad range) for a report.

Sengar said the three class four employees had given him a written complaint against the SSP on Saturday.

“Guman Singh, Sunder Singh and Daya Kishan gave me a written complaint that the SSP had beaten them.”

Sengar said the complaint had been forwarded to the police headquarters.

According to a government official, the SSP was suspended on the direction of chief minister Akhilesh Yadav.

Before being posted in Moradabad, Modak Rajesh was SSP Etawah, the home district of the CM’s father and Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav.

‘I have been here 10 years, no SSP has ever been so inhuman’

Guman Singh, one of the three aggrieved class four employees, spoke to HT on Sunday and gave his version of how the SSP lost his cool and assaulted them. Here’s what he said:

“Former mayor and Samajwadi Party Lok Sabha candidate from Moradabad seat ST Hasan came to the residence of the SSP on Saturday. Hasan informed the public relation officer (PRO) he had come to meet the SSP. He was told that SSP was in the bathroom. When Hasan reminded the PRO again, he was told that SSP was having breakfast. After waiting for an hour, Hasan left the place without meeting SSP.

I did not recognise Hasan nor did the PRO tell me to inform the SSP about the visit of the SP leader. When the SSP came to know that Hasan was kept waiting and had left, he beat us mercilessly. Later, we met the DIG and handed over a complaint. We have also demanded registration of case against the SSP.

I have been posted at the SSP residence for over 10 years and none has ever treated us in such an inhuman manner.”
