Talking to HT Lucknow Live, Pro V-C RS Yadav said that it is too early to jump into any conclusion. “It is just a proposal and not a final decision. The proposed fee structure would be tabled for discussion on Thursday. University has very little option but to raise its fees as the government is not giving enough grant to sustain the courses. But having said that it is still a proposal as the final decision would be taken later after the assembly elections are over,” he said.
University officials stated that ruling Samajwadi Party has restrained LU in the past from raising the fee structure. Infact, the government promised to make for the loss but eventually it did not kept the promise. But now time has come to raise the fees. University officials alleged that state government is still not paying the complete salary component of the teachers. As a result the cash strapped LU exchequer has forced officials to go for steep hike.
