Former Hindutva icon Kalyan Singh today welcomed the Allahabad High Court's verdict on Ayodhya title suits saying it has upheld the belief of crores of Hindus that the disputed site was the birth place of Lord Ram.
"I welcome the verdict which has rejected the Sunni Central Waqf Board claims over the land and accepted that it was the birth place of lord Ram, as had been believed by crores of Hindus for ages," Kalyan Singh said.
"The title of Ram Lala has been proved over the land and this has paved the way for the construction of a grand Ram temple at the site," said Singh, who was the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh when the Babri Mosque was demolished in 1992.
However, the former BJP leader said he was unable to understand the relevance of the court order allowing Muslims to have one-third of the land and expected that the Hindus would approach the Supreme Court against it now.
Making an appeal to Muslims, Kalyan Singh said after the judgement they should come forward and contribute in temple construction.
