Showing exemplary courage on International Women’s Day, a 25-year-old housewife Renu Lodhi single-handedly fought a criminal who tried to flee after snatching her earrings in Kakori area on Sunday afternoon. She kept on fighting the criminal nearly for five minutes until two policemen from a near-by police outpost reached there to help her and arrested the accused.

The incident took place at Chandoiya trisection near Dubagga when Renu along with her husband Ganesh Lodhi and mother-in-law Krishna Lodhi was going to her parent’s house in Kakori’s Durgaganj locality around 2pm. The assailant targeted her when she was purchasing fruits for her parents at Chandoiya trisection before heading towards Durgaganj. Her mother-in-law was standing with her but her husband had gone to find a tempo.

Renu told police that the assailant pounced on her from behind and pulled out her earrings, injuring her ear in the process. However, not one to be afraid, Renu immediately turned and caught hold the man when he tried run away. “He kicked me several times to free himself but I tightened my grip around his waist. Many onlookers were there but nobody came forward to help me. Only my mother-inlaw was shouting for help which alerted the policemen at a nearby outpost and they came rushing,” she said.

Renu pulled the man down on the road when he tried to flee after seeing policemen approaching towards him. The assailant was overpowered and arrested when sub-inspector Rakesh Yadav and constable Balendra Singh reached there.

Lauding the woman’s courage, Yadav said the local police were searching for the accused Rafiq for the past several days, as his involvement was suspected in some more incidents and he was arrested only because of the woman’s bravery.
