An unidentified woman was run over by a train after she jumped on to the tracks, along with two children, at Lucknow Junction in Charbagh at around midnight on Tuesday. The children sustained serious injuries and were undergoing treatment at the Trauma Centre.

The boy, three, has lost his arm and injured his leg, while the girl, six, sustained foot injuries. However, their condition was said to be stable.

"Both of them remained unconscious for most of the day. We could not speak to them. Every time they gain consciousness, they ask for their mother," said GRP outpost in charge at the station Mohd Irshad.

The woman died on the spot. "The Gonda-Lucknow passenger train, after arriving at the station, was moving towards the yard when the three jumped onto the tracks," said Irshad.

The incident occurred on platform number 4 (chhoti line). Police were trying to ascertain the identity of the woman after sending the body for post-mortem examination. A team was also sent to Atrauli and Akbarpur, as a roadways travelling ticket between the two cities, dated March 12 (Tuesday), was recovered from the woman. Officials from social organisation Childline are supervising the treatment of the children. A Childline office bearer said the hospital staff started the treatment after 5 in the morning.
