In an apparent case of rape and murder, a woman in her twenties died in a city hospital on Saturday evening after being found in a pool of blood an hour earlier.
Though the postmortem report is awaited, the police suspect this is a case of rape and murder.
By all available indications, she was thrown off the seventh-floor of a building.
The woman used to work in a beauty parlour, according to police sources. The police said the security guard of the building behind which the woman found stated that he spotted her lying in a pool of blood at 7 pm. He then informed the building authorities and the police, who took her to hospital.
The security guard told the police that the victim, along with around six persons including another woman, were seen entering the flat of a man called Monu Singh, who lives on the seventh floor, at about 4 pm.
The security guard also said he saw Monu Singh and another man leaving the place in a car after the woman was found.
According to the security guard, the deceased had visited Monu Singh earlier.
“More than half-a-dozen empty beer bottles and cigarettes were found on a table in the locked flat (of Monu Singh),” Deputy Inspector General of Police Rajeev Krishna said.
The police said the woman murmured three names — Bhawana Tiwari, Sahil and Neha — before succumbing to injuries at the Ram Manohar Lohia hospital.
The upper part of the victim’s body was wrapped in a bedsheet.
The incident took place in the Ghazipur area of the city.
