In a shocking incident, a seven-year-old girl was raped and murdered here.
The family is migrant from Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh and work here as daily wagers. The girl was abducted from near her house at Guru Nanak Nagar in Salem Tabri on Friday. Her body was found on Monday morning by a villager who was grazing cattle at Jagirpur near Meharban village.
Stray dogs had eaten part of the body that had been thrown into the fields. As the word spread, police and administrative officials reached the spot.
The victim was a student of Class 3 in a local government school here.
After the girl went missing on Friday evening, her father lodged a complaint at Salem Tabri police station. Police commissioner RK Jaiswal reached the spot and visited the house. He instructed the crime branch and Salem Tabri police station to take up the case on priority.
Shree Chand, father of the victim, a worker at a hosiery factory, said his daughter had gone out to play with her friends on Friday evening. He said she had asked her mother for Rs 10 to have a burger from the nearby market.
The body was sent to the civil hospital for post-mortem, where it was confir med that the girl was raped before being murdered. Additional deputy commissioner of police Amrik Singh Pawar said the post-mortem had brought to light that the victim had died of strangulation. He said she was raped before being murdered.
