The anti-illicit liquor cell of the police commissionerate has confiscated 900 boxes of illicit liquor from Daba Road on Friday night. The boxes were loaded in a truck. The police suspects that the liquor was to be used in the municipal corporation elections to woo voters. The police and excise officers have initiated a probe into the matter. However, no case has been registered as yet.
The driver of the truck, in which the liquor was loaded, stated that he had loaded the liquor from Kapurthala and was taking it to Sangrur.
According to sub-inspector Harbans Singh, in charge of the anti-illicit liquor cell, the driver failed to show the required documents. The police will register a case after completing the investigation.
