Learning no lessons from several accidents due to the bumpy Gill Road near Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College, the municipal corporation (MC) has failed to take any measures. As a result, a truck driver had a narrow escape after his vehicle, which was loaded with sand, collided with a pole after it lost balance due to the uneven Gill Road on Saturday.

The Punjab Sewerage and Water Supply Board had laid a sewer line on the road three months ago. According to the board, after laying the line, they were just supposed to re-fill the dug-up area of the road, while the MC was to carpet the road.

Daljeet Singh, superintending engineer, sewerage board, said they were only required to refill the dug-up road, while MC was to lay bitumen on it.

On the other hand, MC has been passing the buck to the sewerage board, claiming the road was to be carpeted by them.

Manjeet Singh, zonal commissioner, Zone C, said after laying the sewer line, it was the sewerage board’s responsibility to provide a carpeted road.

Hardeep Singh, who resides near the area, said whenever trucks passed through the uneven part of the road, vibrations could be felt on doors and windows of our homes.
