Standing up against political interference in working of the municipal corporation's building branch, the staff has complained to local bodies department principal secretary Ashok Gupta

The members of Council of RTI Activists also gave a memorandum regarding political interference to stop officials from performing their job.

From Class-4 employees to assistant town planners, the staff of building branch urged Gupta to take action as they were suffering due to politicians impeding their work.

A building inspector said whenever they initiated action against any encroachment or illegal building in accordance with Punjab and Haryana high court directions, they were given threats by politicians.

Recently, a councillor had also complained that he was given threats to stop a drive from razing an illegal construction in city. He had claimed that they wanted to work honestly, but political leaders threatened them.
The staff claimed that Gupta assured them to look into their complaints. “The principal secretary told us to continue our work and don't pay heed to threats by political leaders,” a staff member said.

“It has been witnessed that sincere working of the building branch is not being liked by some politicians, who for their own personal benefits keep interfering in the work,” said Rohit Sabharwal in a letter to Gupta.
“Because of this political interference, many officials have been transferred, while the remaining work in fear of being transferred if they work in accordance with the law,” he added.
