Police on late Sunday night went into a tizzy following an anonymous call threatening to blow up the police commissioner's office and other offices on the mini-secretariat complex. However, the call turned out to be a hoax.

According to the police, the police control room received a call in the wee hours of Monday in which the caller threatened to blow up the police commissioner's office with RDX that he had already implanted there.

The caller also said rest of the RDX was with one Manpreet Singh of Gobind Nagar.

Acting swiftly, the anti-sabotage teams, along with dog squads, searched all major offices, including the police commissioner's, and also removed all vehicles parked on the premises.

The police also conducted a search at Manpreet Singh's house, only to realise that the call was a hoax.

Sub-inspector Gurveer Singh, SHO, PAU police station, who was part of the team that went to Manpreet's house for checking, said nothing suspicious was found during the searches, adding that somebody might have made the call to settle personal scores with Manpreet.

Stating that efforts were on to trace the caller, the SHO said the police suspected the call might have been made by Manpreet's brother, who lives in Australia, as the duo had an altercation on Sunday night.

Harmohan Singh Sandhu, additional deputy commissioner of police (crime), said it was a fake call.

"The number from which the call was made was peculiar. We suspect that the accused used internet telephony or some software to make the call. Cyber cell and technical support cell have been pressed into service to investigate the matter," Sandhu said.
