The nagar council of Jagraon has again landed in controversy. This time, council's former inspector Satish Arora has accused executive officer (EO) Davinder Toor of demanding Rs 25,000 in bribe.

Following the complaint, the chief vigilance officer of local bodies Anil Kumar Kansal has started a probe and questioned Toor at his office. He also examined the record of the council.

Kansal said inspector Arora had approached them with a written complaint and affidavit against Toor. In his complaint, Arora alleged that Toor had taken Rs 25,000 from him and was demanding more.

Kansal said local bodies minister Anil Joshi was personally looking into the matter. The minister has asked him to submit inquiry report after investigation.

“As the minister has been on a foreign tour till November 14, I will submit my report once he is back,” said Kansal. Later, Kansal also quizzed complainant Satish Arora in a closed room for at least one hour.

In his complaint, Arora said the the executive officer was levelling allegations against him that he had allowed a person to add another storey to his building at Kukkar Chowk in Jagraon. He alleged that the EO had threatened him, besides demanding Rs 25,000 bribe 'to hush up the matter'. Succumbing to the threats, Arora reportedly had greased toor's palms by paying Rs 25,000.

After the incident, Arora took a transfer to nagar council, Mullanpur Dakha. Arora alleged that Toor approached him again and sought more money. Arora said, he was being threatened by unidentified people ever since he filed a complaint against the EO.

When contacted, Toor refuted the allegations levelled by the inspector. Toor said he had issued a show-cause notice to the inspector in a matter of illegal construction at a shop.

“To save his skin, the inspector is trying to implicate him,” Toor said. Meanwhile, officers at nagar council submitted a memorandum to chief vigilance officer in favor of Toor. The officers said that allegations leveled against Toor were baseless and politically motivated.
