With a view to manage the rush of passengers during the festival season, the Northern Railway started a daily train from Chandigarh to Ludhiana and vice-versa on Monday. The service will continue till November 15.
Though two trains were already connecting Ludhiana to Chandigarh, there was a demand of passenger train, which could stop on all stations en route.
The Ludhiana-Chandigarh Special passenger train (04418) departed from Ludhiana station at 9am to reach Chandigarh by 12:10pm, while stopping at Dhandari Kalan, Sahnewal, Lal kalan, Samrala, Khumano, New Morinda, Kharar and SAS Nagar stations.
It later departed from Chandigarh at 1pm and reached Ludhiana at 3.25pm via the same route.
The train does not have the facility to reserve tickets, thus helping impromptu passengers at all the stations en route.
Shivanand Mishra, a passenger, said, “The best advantage of the train is that it is unreserved and if one needs to travel spontaneously, he or she could catch this train.”
A new weekly train from Sri Ganganagar-Jammu Tawi will also run on the route from September 17.
