Even though several cases of larvae of Aedes aegypti mosquito are being found in different areas during the ongoing drive by the officials of the health department, the fogging- essential to stop mosquito breeding- is still missing in various areas of the city, against the claims of the MC. In CRPF colony, where the health department officials found larvae of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes in three houses, residents claim they have not witnessed fogging in the current season.
It may be recalled that though around 1,000 cases of dengue were reported from Ludhiana district in 2013, sources reveal the actual number was much higher than the official record.
The major reason behind mosquito breeding is lack of awareness among residents as they don't care to remove accumulated water at their houses.
“No fogging was done in CRPF Colony, which is the reason three cases of dengue larvae were found here. Moreover, apart from conducting drives, an equal emphasis should be given to make people aware. Besides, fogging should be held in all areas keep a check on dengue,” said Manmeet Kaur, a resident of CRPF Colony and member of Samaj Sewa Society, a non-government organisation.
A resident of Shaheed Karnail Singh Nagar- where some cases of dengue were reported in 2013- Sher Singh Aulakh said, “The dengue larvae are being found in various areas, which is an alarming situation, but it is sad that MC has failed to reach all areas when it comes to fogging.”
Dalbir Singh, a city resident, said, “The fogging was done in Dandi Swami Road and adjoining areas this week but there is a need to speed up the process and cover more areas.”
“We have found larvae of Aedes aegypti mosquito at three houses and informed the MC that will issue challans against persons responsible for breeding of mosquitoes. However, on the part of MC, there is no information about the issuance of any challan till now,” said Dr Anil Verma, district epidemiologist.
Chief of civic body health wing, Amarjit Singh Sekhon, said that fogging was being done as per the schedule in different areas of the city, adding houses, where larvae were being found, were also being challed by the MC.
