Addressing a gathering on Sunday, Tewari said that cabinet had given its nod to the modified Food Security Bill last week and same was reintroduced in the Lok Sabha last Friday. He expressed hope the Parliament will soon pass this bill.

Under the Food Security Bill, Tewari informed, 67 per cent population living below and above poverty line in the rural and urban areas will get rice and wheat at the very nominal rates of Rupees three and Rupees two per kilogram respectively and other food grains at the rate of Rupee one per kilogram.

"Each family will have a legal right to get a minimum of 20 kilogram food grains per month at these rates," he said.

Appreciating the role played by Helping Hand Youth Welfare Association which has arranged the distribution of ration, Tewari said after the Food Security Bill is implemented such associations would not have to contribute ration for the poor and they would be able utilize their resources for other welfare works of the society.
