Union information and broadcasting minister Manish Tewari has said the Food Security Bill would soon become a reality. The bill has a provision of making rice, wheat and other food grains available at cheaper rates.

Tewari was addressing the gathering before distributing ration to over 500 underprivileged persons at Pracheen Gaushala on Sunday

He said the cabinet had given its nod to the modified Food Security Bill last week, and same was reintroduced in the Lok Sabha March 22.

He expressed hope that the Parliament would soon pass the bill, under which a large number of citizens of the country would get wheat and rice at very nominal rates.

Appreciating the Helping Hand Youth Welfare Association, which arranged the ration distributed on Sunday, Tewari said after the Food Security Bill was implemented, such associations would not be required to contribute ration for the underprivileged, and would be able to utilise their resources for other welfare works of society.

Earlier, a delegation of Ayurvedic Drug Manufacturers Association led by its president Ashwani Gupta met Tewari and submitted a memorandum demanding a review of the excise duty structure on MRP basis on Ayurvedic medicines as proposed in this year's union budget.
