Health dept collects food samples to check adulteration

The health department collected 13 samples of food items to check adulteration in the past week.

In a press note released by the district health department on Monday, Dr Abnash Kumar, district health officer, said the samples were collected from various shops in the city and Khanna.

Manoj Khosla, food safety officer, said, “The samples of water, juice, 'laddoo', 'khoya', puff, etc., were collected from different eateries in Khanna. Samples of water and cold drinks were also collected from a shop on Ferozepur Road in Ludhiana. We also collected the samples of 'milk badam' and 'samosa' from one of the canteens in court complex, and samples of prepared 'dal' and 'channa' from an eatery outside court complex.”

“We conducted meeting with contractors of the canteens running in court complex and asked them to maintain cleanliness. They were directed to install fly catchers, wear uniform, conduct medicals of the employees and get registration or licence under the Food Safety and Standards Act,” said Harpreet Kaur, food safety officer.
