A vegetable vendor allegedly brutally attacked his 32-year-old wife with a sharp-edged weapon, before abandoning her in their house in Simla Colony of Kakowal road.

The victim was found lying injured in the room by a visitor to their house.

She has been identified as Aarti (32), wife of Vinod, a native of Rai Bareli in Uttar Pradesh.

According to Basti Jodhewal SHO inspector Balwinder Singh, the woman told them that her husband had migrated to the city a few months ago, while she joined him just three days ago on Friday.

She said her husband attacked her with a sharp-edged weapon on the day of her arrival. She had since been lying unconscious in her room.

Singh said Aarti was found by a man, who visited Vinod on Monday morning regarding some payment.

On finding Aarti lying with severe head injuries, he sounded the police, who rushed her to civil hospital. Her condition is stated to be critical.

The SHO said the woman was not in a condition to record her statement, which was required to register a case.

Meanwhile, the police have alerted the cops deployed at railway station and bus stand to nab the accused.
