The man, who was beaten by an acquaintance over a petty issue on March 27, succumbed to injuries on late Wednesday night.
The division number 4 police have arrested the accused identified as Sadre, 30, of Kundan Puri area on Thursday.
In the case registered against the accused, the police have added murder charges as well. Earlier a case of attempt to murder was registered against him.
The 32-year-old deceased Mohammad Noor Alam hailed from Darbangha in Bihar and was residing in Mohalla Guru Hargobind Nagar. He was a tailor by profession.
Mohammad Ras Alam, brother of the deceased said his brother Noor Alam had gone with his friend Mohammad Parvez on Holi. But when he failed to return, he went looking for him. At around 10.30pm he found his brother standing near Nullah Bridge in Guru Hargobind Nagar.
Meanwhile, he said Sadre pounced came in an inebriated condition and started thrashing him. He fled after that.
Ras Alam said he immediately rushed his brother to Ram Charitable hospital, from where he was referred to CMC hospital on April 2, where he succumbed to injuries on late Wednesday night.
Inspector Vinod Kumar, SHO at police station division number 4 said Mohammad Noor Alam had earlier entered into a scuffle with Sadre around 15 days ahead of Holi. The accused was under the influence of liquor. He had some personal grudges against Noor Alam and hence thrashed him.
“We came to know that the accused has a criminal record. Some cases have been registered against him in Delhi and we are verifying them,” the SHO said.
The deceased has left behind three children and wife who live in Darbangha in Bihar.
