Margretta, 27, a resident of Daroli Bhai in Moga district, had been suffering from severe pain due to multiple stones in her gall bladder for the past six months, but she was unable to afford surgery. Thanks to a city-based NGO, Raahat Health For All, which came forward to provide her free treatment.
Margretta has undergone surgery at Shree Krishna Charitable Hospital and was discharged from hospital on Thursday.
Dr Navdeep Singh Anand, who did the surgery, said the surgery was immediately required, otherwise there could have been complications.
Patient’s husband PS Bhatti, said, “Six months back, we had gone to our native place Ferozepur, where my wife complained of stomach ache. When I took her to the hospital, she was diagnosed with gall bladder stones, and the doctor told that the expenditure for surgery would be between Rs 20,000 and 25,000. But as I work in a church, my monthly income was too low and could not afford her treatment.”
“But, later we contacted the NGO chief, who arranged for my wife’s treatemant,” Bhatti said.
Margretta said, “I have got relief from the unbearable pain. I am really thankful to the members of NGO who came to help me.”
Dr Navdeep informed that there were multiple stones up to the size of 2.5 cm in here gall bladder, which were removed. She was fine now, he added.
“The patient was admitted to the hospital four days back, while surgery was conducted on July 1,” NGO president Dr Raminder Soi said.
“We have arranged 25 free surgeries in the past two years. Earlier, we were five members, but now 70 members are a part of this NGO,” she said.
