Dense fog coupled with poor visibility hit rail services, delaying about 20 Ludhiana-bound trains on Tuesday. The passengers were seen waiting for the trains at various platforms.
Some trains reached the Ludhiana railway station by up to five hours late. According to railway officials, the situation could persist if fog continued in the region.
According to information collected from enquiry office of Ludhiana railway station, Shatabadi Express (Delhi-Amritsar) and Shane Punjab (Delhi-Amritsar) reached late by1:15 hours, while Sachkhand Express (Amritsar to Nanded) and Dadar Express (Amritsar to Dadar) got late by five hours.
Puja Express (Ajmer to Jammu Tawi) was late by 2:30 hours, while Hawra Mail (Hawra to Amritsar), Murri Express (Tata Nagar to Jammu Tawi) and Malwa Express (Indore to Jammu Tawi) reached late by more than four hours.
Besides, Kanpur-Amritsar Express, Rajdhani Express, Sampark Kranti, Jammu Mail, Jhelum Express, Dhauldar Express, among other trains were also late by several hours.
Dhanwant Singh, who had to travel by Sachkhand Express, said, “The fog was too dense when we reached here around 7:15 am and got to know that our train was late by four hours. The station staff is making announcements timely. We can't blame anyone for fog.”
Some trains were delayed due to fog on Monday morning and evening as well.
Deputy station superintendent (commercial) V Bhatia said, “The situation can remain same if fog continued to envelope the region in coming days. We are making announcements about the status of trains so that the passengers do not suffer.”
