Passenger train on Amritsar-Chandigarh route soon

Much to the joy of railway passengers, a new diesel-electric multiple unit (DEMU) train will soon start on the Amritsar-Chandigarh route via Ludhiana.

The train is expected to start before the commencement of summer vacations. Though the authorities have not given a fixed date yet, it is expected to be flagged off in the last week of May.

According to railway officials, the train will be start from Amritsar around noon and reach Ludhiana within two-and-an-half hours. Departing from Ludhiana around 2.45 pm, the train will reach Chandigarh station by 4.30 pm.

En route Ludhiana to Chandigarh, the train will halt at Samrala, Khamano, Morinda and SAS Nagar railway stations.

Divisional railway manager (DRM), Ferozepur division, NC Goyal said after the success of the Amristar-Chandigarh direct railway line, they would start a passenger train which would halt at towns and villages so that more number of people could avail the services.

He said earlier the train was expected to start on April 25, but owing to certain technical reasons it was not flagged off.

“It is expected to flag off in the last week of May,” he added.
