The Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) will organise a 'Crop produce competition' during its on campus Kisan Mela, to be held on September 13 and 14.
Giving details, Dr SPS Brar, senior extension specialist (field crops) and convener of the produce competition committee, said, “During the mela, competition among the recommended varieties of vegetables, including okra (bhindi), bitter gourd (karela), chillies, ram tori, brinjal, radish, ghiya kaddu (long and round)/halwa kaddu, cowpea and other seasonal vegetables will be held.”
In addition, the mela would witness a competition among recommended varieties of field crops, such as sugarcane, cotton, maize cobs/baby corn and other crops, he added. He said the competition of recommended and approved varieties of fruits, including guava, lime and lemon, malta/grape fruit, papaya, or any other seasonal fruit would also be organised. Among floriculture, competition among marigold, loose rose/cut rose, tuberose (Rajni Gandha) and other flowers would be held, added Brar.
Elaborating, Dr Brar said that the produce competition would be held on the first day of the PAU Kisan Mela.
