Taking a note of several complaints submitted by Ludhiana residents alleging that boys’ colleges were reserving seats by charging Rs 15000 to Rs 20,000 extra for BCom admissions, the PU dean (colleges) Naval Kishore has said that strict action would be taken against the colleges if admissions were not conducted on merit.
Talking to HT, Kishore said, “I have received several complaints from Ludhiana as parents are alleging that the colleges were reserving seats by charging extra money for BCom admissions. So, we have warned the principals of boys’ colleges that if any discrepancy is found in the admission process, especially in BCom admissions, we will take strict action against them. The admissions have to be conducted on merit.”
A total of four such complaints were sent to the PU. The parents and students were of the opinion that the PU should appoint observers who can keep an eye on the admissions.
One of the complainants, Praveen Mehta of Dugrapuri, Ludhiana, said, “I submitted a complaint to the PU dean colleges and PU V-C to appoint an observer in the boys’ colleges as they were reserving seats for B.com admissions by charging money from students.”
