The driver of a private ambulance here on Tuesday night left a patient, being shifted from Patiala to Ludhiana, in the ambulance and ran away.

The driver, the owner of the ambulance claimed, had got scared of something and made a run for it, leaving the ambulance, the patient and his family behind. Ambulance owner Om Parkash, however, did not give a reason why the driver had got scared.

The patient, Rajan Kumar of Chotti Haibowal here, was injured in an accident in Patiala on Tuesday. When the ambulance was near Durga Mata Mandir here, the driver stopped the vehicle and ran away. He did not even give an explanation about what had happened.

Following this, the patient's family called the government-run 108 ambulance and shifted Rajan to a private nursing home.

Om Parkash said the matter had been resolved. “We apologized to the family for the inconvenience due to the driver of the ambulance. The matter was resolved at the Division Number 8 police station.”

Division Number 8 police station house officer (SHO) Ranjit Singh confirmed this. “But they did not lodge a complaint. They had reached a compromise by themselves.”
