'Torture' of 9-year-old

Finally, the heads have started rolling in connection with the illegal detention and 'torture' of 9-year-old boy Rohit by the cops at the PAU police station, as highlighted by Hindustan Times on Sunday.

Even as Rohit's parents were under pressure to withdraw the complaint, the police brass suspended ASI Narinder Singh, incharge of Raghunath Enclave police post that falls under the PAU police station and head constable Harnek Singh, who allegedly tortured the boy in a bid to make him confess that he had stolen money from his friend's house. During the suspension period the two cops will report at the police lines.

Police commissioner Paramjit Singh Gill has also formed a special investigation team (SIT) comprising deputy commissioner of police Harsh Bansal, additional deputy commissioner of police (city-2) Bhupinder Singh, ACP (traffic) Dhruman Nimbale and a woman ASI. The police commissioner has given the SIT three days to submit a report.

DCP Bansal said, "The team will carry out a fair probe and submit report in three days." He also confirmed the action taken against ASI Narinder Singh and head constable Harnek Singh.

Nine-year-old Rohit, a resident of Ashapuri was beaten by the cops at PAU police station on Friday. The cops allegedly hit him in the private parts and the boy was facing problem in passing urine.
