Victim airlifted to Mumbai, police remand of accused extended

Acid attack victim Harpreet Kaur was airlifted to the National Burns Centre, Mumbai, on Thursday. A team of doctors and two of her relatives are accompanying her.

She was taken from Ludhiana to the Chandigarh domestic airport, from where she was flown to Mumbai in a private airways plane. According to doctors, her condition is stable.

The Ludhiana police had decided to send the victim to the Mumbai centre and bear all expenses of her treatment. Assistant commissioner of police (ACP, crime) Gurbans Singh Bains said the police would stay in touch with doctors at the centre.

Meanwhile, the accused   Amit Pal Kaur alias Dimpy alias Pari, Sunpreet Singh alias Sunny, Jaspreet Singh alias Mattu, Gurtej Singh and Rakesh Kumar alias Premi - were produced before the court on Thursday. The court extended their police remand till December 16.

Parvinder Singh, Amitpal's paramour and a key accused, has been undergoing treatment at the civil hospital here for fractures in the leg and left arm. He has been in judicial remand.

Ashwani Kumar, who prepared forged car number plates for the accused, was also produced before the court. He has been sent to jail on judicial remand.

The police found that Parvinder was facing two cases of assault at Sadar police station, Patiala, and Chandigarh. He was disowned by his family for his wrongdoings.

Harpreet, a bride, had suffered an acid attack at a beauty salon here on Saturday.
