Woman files nomination from SAD

On the last day of filing nominations for the Lok Sabha elections on Wednesday, a 53-year-old woman filed nomination from Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), leaving many surprised.

The woman, Premjit Kaur, said, “I am a worker of SAD and it is my right to file nomination in the name of my party. Manpreet Singh Ayali is an MLA, but I am also a member of the party.” She refused to comment on who declared her a SAD candidate.

When contacted, SAD-BJP’s official candidate Manpreet Singh Ayali said, “I don’t know who Premjit Kaur is. She may have mentioned SAD by mistake.”

Meanwhile, a total of 14 candidates filed nominations on Wednesday.

With this 25 candidates and five covering candidates have filed nominations from Ludhiana constituency.
Those who filed nominations included independent candidates Tarsem Singh, Rajiv Kumar Kalra, Simarjit Singh Bains, Simerjit Singh, Gurdeep Singh Kahlon and Jaswinder Singh Bains, and Manjeet Singh Mahal (All India Trinamool Congress), Bittu (Republican Party of India), Akshay Barnath Mishra (Janta Dal United), Mohammad Maksoodansari (Bahujan Mukti Party), Krishan Kumar Sharma (J&K National Panthers Party), Darshan Singh (Shiv Sena), Hare Ram (All India Forward BLOC) and Premjit Kaur (SAD).

Independent candidate Simarjit Singh Bains filed another nomination on Wednesday. A candidate can file up to four nominations.
The scrutiny of nominations would be held on April 10. The last date for withdrawal of nominations is April 12 when symbols would also be allotted.
Elections for the Ludhiana Lok Sabha constituency will be held on April 30.

General observer reaches city
SP Thakur, an Orissa-cadre IAS officer of the 1986 batch, has been appointed as the general observer for Ludhiana constituency for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. The general observer arrived in city on Wednesday.

The general observer will ensure that elections campaigns and rallies conducted in the city are carried out in a peaceful manner and do not cause any direct or indirect inconvenience to the public.
