After thrashing the cops, the accused fled in their car, which was later recovered from Jamalpur on Monday. The PCR staff has registered a case against the accused, Rahul Chander of Jamalpur, Mahinder Singh, Makkhan, Jeet of Sherpur Khurd and their unidentified accomplices, under section 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon), 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object) and 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Focal Point police station.

The case was registered following the statement of constable Lakhbir Singh. In his complaint, Lakhbir stated that he, along with his colleague constable Nagina Singh, was present at Dholewal Chowk. Another PCR motorcycle team comprising head constable Avtar Singh and Boota Singh were also present at the chowk.

Meanwhile, they got information that some miscreants were creating ruckus at Dholewal Chowk and harassing commuters. They reached the spot and tried to apprehend the accused, who twisted his arm and assaulted him. The accused also broke the digital light and glass installed on their motorcycle and thrashed other cops, before fleeing in their car, Lakhbir alleged.

Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Gurcharan Singh, who is investigating the matter, said before creating ruckus on the road, the accused were quarrelling at a wedding, where they were invited.
