Does leaving your pet at home break your heart every time you go out to eat? A few city eateries have decided to make things easier. Diggin Café in Anand Lok is happy to allow your pets in its outdoor area on Sundays. Digvijay Bedi, owner, says, “There are so many guests who treat pets like family. So we announced on social media that we will allow pets in the outside area. We will offer complimentary food to them.”
The Artful Baker at the Khan Market is yet another restaurant that’s welcoming pets in. “We had many guests asking us if they can bring their pets inside and we said ‘sure’,” says chef Jeneva Talwar of the bakery.
Pet lovers in the city say Delhi needs many more pet-friendly eateries. “Delhi has a huge pet population but doesn’t have enough places where you can entertain them. Restaurants across the world are allowing pets inside. It’s time Delhi learnt from them,” says pet lover Prerna Arora.
However, many restaurateurs say it’s not a feasible idea. “It would create hygiene issues. Also, other guests might not like their company,” says Siddharth Aggarwal of Piali, The Curry Bistro. Jasneet Sahni, owner, Lanterns Kitchen and Bar, agrees, “Space is a constraint for us and we are mostly overcrowded. Pets need space to goof around. It will be tough to entertain them.”
