The Gionee Marathon M5 Plus is a good-looking phone with a good battery life. But it’s not the best choice for those looking for a solid camera
The Gionee Marathon M5 Plus enters an already-crowded mid-range smartphone market. The phone has attractive features, like a fingerprint scanner, inbuilt apps like DU Speed booster, and OLX, and it has a good processor. But is it worth your time and money?
What’s good: The phone’s USP is the fingerprint scanner integrated in the home button. It’s quick to respond, and accurate. The dual-sim phone has a 5020mAh battery, which promises a standby time of 829 hours. We found it could run without charging for two days. The display is attractive. It has an 6-inch screen, and comes with metallic frames and rounded corners. We used up almost all the storage on the phone, but it continued to function without lags. The cameras — both front and rear — perform well in daylight. The camera comes with features such as HDR and panorama.
What’s not: Though the camera worked well in daylight, it failed miserably in low-light conditions. The images were grainy. Even the auto-focus didn’t work too well. Priced at Rs 26,999, it is an expensive phone that offers little in return. There are other products out there with similar features, but at competitive prices. The Lenovo Vibe P1 (Rs 15,999) and OnePlus 2 (Rs 22,999), for instance.
Verdict: The Marathon M5 Plus offers a long battery life and lag-free performance. But if you’re looking for a solid camera, we suggest you keep looking.
