Breaking away from their annual release strategy (which continued for 7 years), Ubisoft, developers of popular gaming franchise Assassin’s Creed, decided to take a break before pushing another release. This decision was reportedly made to fix declining franchise sales and as a reaction to critical reception. But now, the break seems to have come to an end.
The long-awaited next instalment in the Assassin’s Creed franchise seems to have been revealed with an off-screen image of the new game on American social news aggregation and discussion website, Reddit. The game is reportedly titled Assassin’s Creed: Origins. The site has been buzzing with rumours, speculations, fan art and rumoured concept art, ever since the first mention of the game’s setting, Egypt, came up.
Have a look at the grab:
The image confirms rumours, speculation of fans across the Internet. Previous reports had suggested that the upcoming instalment will be more of a prequel set in Egypt — a reset for the franchise . It also indicates that reports, that the new instalment will evoke themes from Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag , arguably the most successful next-gen game in the franchise. What makes us believe that it is indeed set in Egypt? The top left corner of the grab shows us an objective which reads, “Follow Shadya to Khenut’s Villa.” Khenut was an Egypt queen during her husband, King Unas’ reign, who was part of the Fifth Dynasty of Egypt.
Eurogamer (a site that confirms news from the game world) recently validated the image as an authentic one, but there is no confirmation from the makers yet. If rumours are to be believed, the game is expected to be unveiled in the upcoming Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) event in June this year.
