It pays to be a student in Delhi University’s North Campus. Indeed, salons and beauty parlours are offering a huge amount of discounts to lure students to use their services, as the new session begins. Rumaisa Aleem, a student of Hindu College, says, “Some salons are offering discounts only on services like haircuts, some give 10-30% discount and then there are some that are offering flat 50% off on specific days of the week. A haircut that would normally cost me Rs 500 then costs me Rs 150. Accha hai na, parlour waalo ke sales badhenge and hum students ke paise bhi bachenge.”

Pankaj Parsad, of Star Fem Inn salon in Kamla Nagar, shares that salons are offering discounts to make the most of the admission season crowd. “ Ye discounts dene se bahut fark pada hai humare business mein, iske pehle business itna nahi tha. Admission season chal raha hai na, log zyaada aate hain so we are trying to attract as many customers as we can.”

From waxing to chemical services such as hair colouring, hair smoothening and hair rebonding, discounts are available to students on all treatments as long as they’re carrying a valid college ID card along with them. “Students get to avail these discounts only if they show us a valid ID card. We’re offering 20% student discount which goes up to 30% if a student takes our membership,” says Akanksha Verma, manager at Cut and Style in Kamla Nagar.

While most parlours offer discounts to individual customers, there are some that are offering heavy discounts to students when they come in groups. Seema Gupta, owner of Kuts and Kandy, says, “If they are 5 or more, they get a 40% discount on their bill. Agar koi student apne saath 4 aur friends laata hai, toh uss student ko 50% discount milta hai phir. The sales have gone up by 70-80%. Student groups se humari bhi income badhti hai and they also enjoy coming together.”

Mansi Singhal, a student of Miranda House, “We usually go in groups, even though not a lot of salons offer group discounts. These discounts help us as we get to avail more services in the same budget. And sab Kamla Nagar mein hi hai toh easy ho jaata hai college se jaana.”
