For those who were waiting for the release of Red Dead Redemption 2 — the much awaited sequel of 2010’s Red Dead Redemption— they’ll have to wait some more. The open world western action-adventure video game developed by Rockstar San Diego and published by Rockstar Games, which was slated for a fall 2017 release has now been pushed to spring 2018.
While this announcement has many fans disappointed, Rockstar has released a few images in an attempt to placate die hard fans of the franchise. While other details about the game are scarce, the released images show us more of the massive open world that the new game will have.
Here, have a look:
THE SPECULATED HERO:
The figure shown in the picture above seems to a regular feature in most of the promotional pictures released by the developers. Fans have speculated that this recurring figure could indeed be Dutch van der Linde from the previous iteration of the game. Another speculation that has risen from the Colt SAA and a Smith and Wesson Model 3 wielding figure is that characters in the sequel will be able to wield dual weapons.
Another image that shows dual weapon control is actually giving rise to the speculation of a central female character. This could simply be an image that shows us the great graphics capability of the game, but fans already have started decoding whatever hints they could find in the image — from the gun make to the symbols on the ring— that we may finally have a femme fatale in this game.
IS BLACKWATER BACK?
If you’ve played Red Dead redemption, you’d remember Blackwater — the industrialized settlement and also the largest and most modernised city in Red Dead Redemption. The new images suggest that in its newest iteration, the game will explore Blackwater again, this time in a different era.
ARE THESE THE REDWOODS?
The developers have already hinted at a massive playable map that will take us across various terrains. This specific screen seems a lot like the Redwoods. While the game plans on exploring the unforgiving heartlands, hawk-eyed fans have pointed out how the Redwoods do not really classify as part of the heartlands. So where really is this?
TRAIN ROBBERIES AND MAYHEM
When the minds behind the game are that of Grand Theft Auto series, one can expect to see a little mayhem. While the image of this steam-powered train looks very calm, Reddit users believe that it could indeed mean the game getting us some train robberies, and a fair chance at mayhem.
DISCOVER THE WORLD:
Giving us a better look at another location on the expansive map of the game, here we have a shot at the Praries. While we have enough evidence of the great big world, maybe E3 will bring us more new.
SWITCHABLE CHARACTERS LIKE GTA?
GTA’s latest iteration had switchable lead characters, and another fan speculation that seems to be really strong is the existence of more than one lead characters (the femme fatale included). We’d be able to choose between them, customise their abilities and weapons and see their complete arc.
