Fancy a pedicure where your feet smell like caramel all day long? We tried it. Surprisingly, it didn’t disappoint.

On our first visit to Nailspa Experience in Colaba, we almost don’t make it. Tucked away in the periphery of Navy Nagar, it takes us a while to locate the space; even Google Maps leads us in the opposite direction. When we finally make it to the location (in the Chirag Din lane), the staff is accommodating, despite us having missed our appointment.

As we head to the pedicure station, we notice the grand decor — velvet armchairs in the waiting lounge, crystal chandeliers and lamps hanging from the ceiling. We are offered a glass of water as we dip our feet into lukewarm water bubbling with soap and bath salts.

We are here to try a new addition to the their offerings: the caramel pedicure. It includes a sugar-based skin scrub, a shea butter-infused mask and a caramel fragrance. So, what’s different about caramel? We are told it helps fight and get rid of tanning. Moreover, it’s supposed to moisturise the tough skin on your heels, keeping cracks at bay. Our pedicure starts with a basic nail clean-up and filing. Our feet are then exfoliated with a caramel scrub with sugar crystals. Sounds tasty? It’s not. We tried.

The scrub is washed away with cold water to close the pores on our feet, before shea butter lotion is smeared on our legs, knees to toes. As the lotion seeps in, the nail technician prepares a skin mask with caramel liquid and lotion. It is applied to our ankles, toes and heels and the toe nails are left untouched. We are advised not to apply nail polish for the next 24 hours as it helps the nails breathe.

The mask is left to dry on our feet for ten minutes and then wiped off with a warm towel. We notice a definite reduction in tan and the skin feels soft. Four days on, the effects are still visible. So, if you don’t mind smelling like a freshly brewed caramel latte for a few days, this pedicure is worth a try.
