Aamir performs some dangerous stunts for Dhoom:3.
The third installment of the action franchise is a visual delight. The film also has an emotional connect but critics say the film lacks imagination and is showing signs of franchise fatigue.
As far as Aamir Khan is concerned, he nails it as a villain. Katrina makes an impressive entry but doesn't have much scope for performance.
Piyasree Dasgupta, First Post
Critic's take: Abhishek Bachchan and his leather jacket continue to share the same number of expressions they did nine years ago, when the Dhoom franchise was launched. Uday Chopra hasn't possibly watched any of his own films still so is yet to retire. Aamir Khan's abdomen is not happy being his, it now wants to belong to Hrithik Roshan and hence tries to look like the latter's. Katrina Kaif's hotness remain unharmed, especially given that her face remains untouched by too many emotions.
Vinod Talreja, Bollywood Life
Critic's take: Dhoom:3 is ultra cool, but beneath the sheen there’s substance too. Set in Chicago, the film is a visual delight. The film makes your jaw drop to your knees, courtesy the sweeping impact it makes.
Mohar Basu, Koimoi.com
Critic's take: Of course, one wouldn’t watch Dhoom for a story. It has always been about the ‘femme fatalles’ and ‘Fast and Furious’ stunts. But this one reveals itself as less of a wet dream than what you expect. I specifically like the realistic writing that was attempted in this one. Using one of Bollywood’s archaic props in a contemporary movie like this is astonishing and commendably used.
To say the least, Aamir Khan is sincere in whatever he does. He plays every shade of his role with smoothness, ease and perfection. Katrina Kaif is beautiful in every frame. She is perfect with her acts and the dance. Sadly, her role isn’t written with more meat or emotion. Abhishek Bachchan is as good as Jai Dixit as he has always been.
Shubhra Gupta, Indian Express
Critic's take: Dhoom 3 is nearly three hours long, and I am here to tell you that my eyes strayed from the screen many, many times. My attention shouldn't have wavered. Because the third instalment of Dhoom has the kind of tech specs the slickest Hollywood flicks do: superb cinematography, great-looking sets, expansive foreign locations. And the promise that leading man Aamir Khan is meant to bring to his act. But very soon into the film, you are overcome with the feeling that engulfs you when you encounter stuff you've seen too many times before. Dhoom 3 is a victim of both a lack of imagination, and franchise fatigue.
Rohit Khilnani, India Today
Critic's take: Vijay Krishna Acharya's Dhoom 3 is another visual treat where you get to see a fancy foreign city, cool bikes, police cars and good stunts but that's about it. The Dhoom series theme music when clubbed with the action stunts in the latest installment provides some entertainment because what you end up watching is not all that bad. But if you are looking for any logic, you are watching the wrong film.
Taran Adarsh, Bollywood Hungama
Critic's take: The latest chapter of Dhoom, directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya, delivers everything you anticipate from it, so there's no room to grumble, frankly. All those who have loved the previous installments -- and even the cynics too -- are sure to get swept away into the world of Sahir, Jai, Ali and Aaliya. Agree, the narrative moves in the same vein and you might find a few episodes implausible, but in terms of overall impact, it surpasses the earlier installments by leaps and bounds.
