If you’re young, not too demanding about cinematic worth, and have a huge appetite for saccharine, then this one’s your ticket. Others are advised to tread carefully into this world where all is pretty, peppy and alas, also petty.

After two world-wooing TV films, Walt Disney’s big screen version arrives. From all accounts, it has been lambasted by the critics from Honolulu to Hong Kong. Now, maybe that’s a bit harsh because even in this cotton candy land, there are Zac Efron as Troy, and Vanessa Hudgens as Gabrielle, both of whom exude star quality. Only, they are locked up in High School Musical 3:Senior Year which by comparison would make the Grease series seem positively intellectual.

Troy and Vanessa, we see, are a tad worried. Why on earth? Simply because school’s about to start and they can’t bear the thought of separation. Hence, a lavish musical shindig is organised to express the cute pangs of angst and love interrupted. Meanwhile, a separate agenda has been devised by Ashley Tisdale. More worry?

Fear not. After all, the big song of this musical goes,“We’re all in this together.” The audience might disagree though. Even with the kilos of sweet stuff around, we are left with a bland after taste. See only if you are seeking a sugar rush.
