Highlight Story

Victory (where?)
Cast: Hurman S Baweja (post-numerology advice), Amrita Rao, Wickets, Pads, Helmets, Bandages, Pugrees
Direction: Ajitpal Mangat
Rating: ** (for the pugrees, handloom kurtas, ikkat shirts)

Out, out, out. Victory is an undisguised spin-off from Chak De! India. This time, it’s about Hurman, the underdog who fights the Goliaths at the Cricket Board of Control, plays the Ranji Trophy and joins Team India to pulp Brett Lee to fiction. Then Gulshan Grover, endorsement dealer (described as team manager – how please?) compels our Hurman meet babes, booze and billions. Oho ho ho.

Now, Dad Anupam Kher flips his 1,000 pugrees. His lips freeze. More woes: Cricketer Hurman needs a back operation in Australia and then muchos gracias to Coach Dalip Tahil (howlarious) is back in the game. You know what that means. Dear Amrita Rao can now quit meeting him – Hurman that is – in the desertscapes..and clap, clap, clap happily ever after. Such pap.

The friendly and inexpert appearances by cricketers don’t redeem this stadium fiesta at all; only Harbhajan Singh utters a forbidden word which is bleeped out. Hurman S Baweja is as earnest as a boy scout. For the rest of the way, here’s Defeat.

(PS: After over two years and three months of this column, I move on with deep gratitude to you dear HT readers for sticking by me. It’s always tough saying it..but here it is. Goodbye).
