Elven years after a 31-year-old man was murdered in Thane, two accused were arrested.

On November 11, 2006, six people stabbed Vicky Patil and Machi Kumar, 28, over rivalry. Patil sustained severe injuries and he died.

The police arrested main accused Pappu alias Chamya Yadav and his two friends – Rakesh alias Gabbar Yadav, Sonu Yadav. Three other accused were on the run.

On Monday, the police got a tip-off that the two accused, who were involved in the murder and attempt to murder, were supposed to come to Vartak Nagar in Thane.

“We laid a trap and arrested the two accused Amar Kann Nadar, 39, and Laxman alias Lakshya Gurudutt Vitkar, 35. During questioning, they confessed to the crime. We learnt that they murdered Patil as he had allegedly burnt Pappu’s sister to death,” said a police officer from Thane crime branch.

Three people were arrested immediately after the murder while three escaped. “One accused is still on the run and we will arrest him soon,” said the officer. The two accused kept changing their look and roamed different states to do odd jobs and evade the police. “We came to know that they were in touch with their family. We will question the family members too,” he added.
