The Central Railway (CR) will introduce 18 new services from today, a move that will bring some relief to lakhs of Mumbai commuters who use the suburban rail network daily.
In a change of schedule announced late on Tuesday night, the CR has also tried to address the lack of sufficient compartments for women travelling during peak hours by dedicating three compartments (near the guard compartment) for women on the 8.45 am local from Badlapur to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) and on the 8.10am local from Titwala to CSMT.
The CR has also changed the timings of the last local trains leaving from CSMT and other stations on the central line. The last train leaving for Thane from CSMT has been rescheduled to 12.31 am from 12.34 am, and the last train for Thane from Kurla has been moved ahead to 12.56 am instead of 01.02 am. The Thane-Kalyan train has been scheduled for 01.19 am instead of 01.24 am, while the last Kalyan-Karjat local is now scheduled to leave at 01.52 am instead of 01.57 am.
