A 19-year-old woman from Manipur, was allegedly molested by an unknown person in Kalina at Santacruz (East) on Friday night. The incident occurred when the woman was heading towards her residence after work. The Vakola police have registered a case against an unknown person and have been scrutinising the CCTV cameras installed nearby to identify the culprit.
According to the police, the woman lives in Kalina and works at a spa in the western suburbs. Around 11.45 pm on Friday, her employer dropped her near Kalina Masjid, which was close to her house. Since it was raining, she waited at a bus stop for a few minutes and then started walking home, as soon as it stopped raining.
“A person in his late twenties was following her and caught her hand and touched her inappropriately few metres before her residence. She managed to escape and started screaming. The accused got scared and fled from the spot” said senior inspector Mahadev Wavale of Vakola police station.
The woman did not know the accused and could not even see his face properly at the time of incident. The next day she informed her employer about the incident, added Wavale.
“We will contact the woman again and if she can even give better descriptions of the culprit we will prepare a sketch and will try to nab him soon,” he added.
Police vans conduct patrolling at night in the Kalina area but after this incident we have increased the frequency of patrolling in the area, said another officer of the Vakola police station.
